Tarea 12/14-12/18

6-1: Study your letters. Alphabet test postponed to Monday 12/21. You will need to write the letters that you hear and be able to spell your first and last name to me in Spanish. Make flashcards of the letters and how you say them in Spanish. This is a great way to study the letters and I will give you extra-credit if you show them to me.


6-2: no homework. Took test on Tuesday.

Tarea- El Día de los Muertos--Write about one of the following topics.  

1)       Compare and contrast Halloween and El Día de los Muertos.  How are Halloween celebrations different from El Día de los Muertos celebrations?  In what ways are they similar?

2)       El Día de los Muertos has often been compared to Halloween but there are many differences.  Why is El Día de los Muertos celebrated in Mexico and Central America?  Why is Halloween celebrated in the United States?

3)     Most cultures honor their departed loved ones in special ways.  Compare and contrast how the dead are honored in Mexico and the United States (or another country of your choice).

4)     Write a poem about El Día de los Muertos.

5)     Write a short story about El Día de los Muertos.

6th grade--no homework this week. There will be a quiz on the colors and related vocabulary coming up soon-- next Friday 10/23 for 6-2! Flash cards are extra credit.

7th grade --Wednesday-- all classes have worksheet 60 due tomorrow (Thursday).

Thursday -- 7-2 and 7-3 have a test on the the family vocabulary on Friday. 7-1 has this test on Tuesday. Study and make flash cards for extra credit!

Friday-- 1) Using the rubric for the family oral presentation, write a rough draft of what you will say in Spanish of the required information. Skip lines or double space-- you will hand it in next class--on Wednesday for 7-2 and Tuesday for 7-3. 2) Also bring 3-4 pictures of family member s to use next class--on Wednesday for 7-2 and Tuesday for 7-3. These are necessary for the class activity planned.

Homework for week 9/8 -9/11

6th grade: get a one subject spiral notebook for your class this week.
6-2 and 6-3: interactive homework assignment (do with a parent/guardian) due on Friday 9/11 for 6-2 and on Tuesday9/15 for 6-3.
Scissors, colored pencils and gluesticks will also be useful to use in Spanish class this year.

Your book must be covered. Tonight's homework--why study Spanish homework is due tomorrow--choose ONE of the following four to write about or make a poster for homework :

1. Culture: List any example that you know from Spanish-speaking countries for these categories--Literature, Art, Music ,History and Food. Interview your family members and do research to add to your lists. You may be surprised how much your life has already been influenced by spanish-speaking cultures. Note: You need at least 15 examples total for full credit. Also, find at least 2 examples for each catergory.

2) Career opportunities: Make a list of 10 or more careers where Spanish would be especially useful or necessary. For each career, explain how a professional could use Spanish. You could also look through the newspaper to see how many jobs require knowledge of Spanish. (Some research may be necessary.)

3) Share your travel experience: If you have traveled to a Spanish speaking country bring in photographs and tell us about your trip. What did you see, how did you feel, what did you do? You could make a small poster or just photos and be ready to share your experiences with your class.

4) Make a poster of at least 10 ways that studying Spanish will be useful to you in your life.
